Dear Madam,
RE: LUSU MISSION BASIC SCHOOL TO BE HANDED OVER TO THE GOVERNMENT
We are glad to inform you that decision has been made for the above mentioned school to be handed over to the Ministry of Education with immediate effect.
In 2003, with coming of the Mission to Lusu, the local community had requested help from the Mission to help solve the problem with education of their children. This we tried to do with the help of the Catholic believers abroad who were sympathetically following development of Lusu Mission. The work was jointly done by the donations for construction together with voluntary work of the local people. The school was initially run as a Community School approved by the Ministry and supported by the Mission.
In 2004 the first 1x1 class room block was constructed and in 2005 a 1x2 class room block and a three bed room house for the teacher had been completed.
On 13th September, 2005, the District Education Board Secretary, Mr. Notulu N. Neville had recommended to the Provincial Education Officer upgrading of Lusu Community School to a Regular Basic School and soon after that he had sent Mr. Charles Muuka to be the first acting Head Teacher.
Since that time the school has been receiving teachers from the Ministry of Education along with the regular school grant. Today there are five Government teachers and three support teachers employed by the Mission: total of eight teachers with more than three hundred pupils in grades one to nine.
We are happy to see that the school is now in capable leadership of the Head Teacher
Rabecca Longwe (Mrs.) and her team and that the school is progressing well. This fact gives us assurance that the Mission has achieved its initial goal of helping the community in the matters of education. As a GRZ school, various Government supported funds and projects will be now open to the school which was not the case when it was called a “Mission School”.
Our intention never was to continue running the school but to bring it to the point when it can be handed to the Ministry of Education for regular running. The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Livingstone has agreed that this time has now come.
Needless to say, Lusu Mission doesn’t expect any financial or any other compensation for the investment. We did it for the love of God and the love of the people of Lusu area and that makes us happy.
Along with the two existing class room blocks, a new one which is currently under construction, water tank and one permanent three bed room teacher house we also hand over the land which the Mission has allocated to the school and boarders with the land allocated to the clinic.
We pray for God’s blessing and guidance for this school for the benefit of His children in Lusu area.
Sincerely
Fr. Boris Dabo
